Last homework for Mrs B

Dear All,

With a sad heart and immense belief in you all, I am now going to ask you to write me one last essay. Please attempt to write one of the following:

To what extent is the advent of ON Line gaming replacing basic literacy skills in society?

How can we apply the ideas of 'We@media to our changing notions of collective identity?

Please put these on your blogs and I will mark them by the end of term.

Addition to homework

In addition to this work, I would really like you to read chapter 6 in Branston and Stafford on Ideologies and Power and summarise this in your own words on your blogs. You can come into the Media room and read in here or there are copies in the library.

Please also remember to keep up the good work recording what we did in the lesson (in extreme brief)

Thanks guys, you are legends,
Mrs b

Homework for today

Hello All,

I am now beginning to get a sense of what you are doing in Media and I have to say that most of you are really raising your games.

Today we will be taking a trip to Political Britain and to that end I am setting you another double task. In groups in lesson 2 you will be researching various institutions ( really a revisit of y12) to decide where they lie on the political spectrum. Then, you will be designing powerpoint presentations for next lesson (to be posted onto your blogs as well) describing the following things:

funding streams
values
any known political affiliations
global positioning and brands
products

This will be a group effort and will contribute to your understanding of both Collective Identity and later Globalisation of the media.

Homework 16/09/09

Dear All,

Very impressed with the way that most of you have shown you can step up to the academic side of A2 Media.By and large your work on the articles is good.

This week we return to the world of film. I would like you to begin a comparison on two British films; Slumdog Millionaire and Somerstown. I would like you to research the INSTITUTIONS behind them, the cast and the funding streams to decide to what extent they could be classed as British films. This will be part of a CASE STUDY you can draw upon in the exam.

The second task will be to use your notes taken in class to compare the versions of Britishness as represented in Sense and Sensibility and Four Weddings and a funeral. Please use the ARTICLES you read and try and include some of the ideas from there in a short(1,000 words max) essay comparing the two films. Remember to talk about CAGE, IM RAVING and to include EVIDENCE in the form of shot types, editing techniques, MIse en scene and sound.

Title: Identify how Sense an Sensibility and Four Weddings and a Funeral represent aspects of Bristish society past and present.
